ABOUT US
ABOUT RANDORI JIU JITSU
At Randori Jiu Jitsu, our focus is on delivering high-quality martial arts instruction grounded in the principles of Jiu Jitsu and Judo. The word "Randori" comes from Judo and translates to "free practice" or "sparring," emphasizing the importance of adaptability, fluidity, and applying learned techniques in dynamic situations.
Randori Jiu Jitsu was established to create a space where the foundations of both martial arts come together. Judo’s focus on balance, throws, and leverage perfectly complements Jiu Jitsu’s ground-based techniques, submissions, and control. By integrating these disciplines, we aim to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of martial arts, offering well-rounded training that builds both physical and mental strength.
Whether you’re here to refine your skills, learn effective self-defense, or explore the strategic aspects of martial arts, Randori Jiu Jitsu provides a structured, supportive environment. With classes for kids and adults, our programs are designed to challenge, educate, and inspire practitioners at every level.
Our goal is to promote growth through consistent practice, discipline, and respect for the art. Join us to experience firsthand how the principles of Jiu Jitsu and Judo extend beyond the mats and into everyday life.
JUDO CONCEPT
Judo, which translates to “the gentle way,” is a Japanese martial art founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882. Rooted in the principles of efficiency and mutual benefit, Judo emphasizes using technique and leverage to overcome size, strength, and resistance. Unlike many martial arts that rely on striking, Judo focuses on throws, pins, joint locks, and submissions, making it both a practical and strategic discipline.
Core Principles of Judo
1. Maximum Efficiency, Minimum Effort (Seiryoku Zenyo):
This principle highlights the importance of using energy effectively. By exploiting an opponent’s movements and balance, a smaller or weaker individual can defeat a stronger adversary.
2. Mutual Welfare and Benefit (Jita Kyoei):
Judo promotes cooperation and respect, both in practice and in life. Training partners are essential to learning, and mutual growth is prioritized over competition.
Technical Foundations
Judo techniques are divided into two main categories:
• Tachi-waza (Standing Techniques): These include dynamic throws that require precise timing and control to off-balance an opponent and execute a throw. Examples include hip throws like O-goshi, sweeping techniques like De-ashi-barai, and shoulder throws such as Seoi-nage.
• Ne-waza (Ground Techniques): These focus on control and submissions, including pins like Kesa-gatame, chokes like Okuri-eri-jime, and joint locks like Juji-gatame.
Randori and Kata
• Randori (Free Practice): Randori allows students to apply techniques in a dynamic, sparring-like setting. It emphasizes fluidity, adaptability, and practical application.
• Kata (Forms): Kata is a structured sequence of techniques performed with a partner to perfect form, balance, and precision. It serves as the foundation for mastering the art.
The Value of Judo Beyond the Mats
Judo is not just a physical discipline; it is a way of life. The training instills discipline, patience, and perseverance, teaching practitioners to remain calm under pressure and find solutions to challenges. The emphasis on mutual respect and growth fosters strong personal character and a sense of community.
Whether pursued for self-defense, competition, or personal development, Judo offers a holistic approach to martial arts training. Its emphasis on balance, technique, and strategy makes it a powerful and accessible art for practitioners of all ages and skill levels.
Join us at Randori Jiu Jitsu to experience Judo firsthand and discover how its principles can enhance both your martial arts journey and your everyday life.
